Hamilton Dramaturgy Press Releases Two New Titles

Hamilton Dramaturgy Press has published two anthologies of plays and poetry. ANOTHER WHITE SHIRT And Other Plays and Poetry is a collection written in 2009. THE STACY PLAY – A LOVE SONG – VOLUME I was written in 2010. I had written such a large number of plays, short plays, monologues, clown plays and poetry, that I decided to publish it as a celebration of my twentieth year working as a dramaturg. The anthologies are available through www.lulu.com as paperbacks and Ebooks. I plan to publish one volume of my writing each year as a record of my literary muse.

The great American actress Kathleen Chalfant starred as my character Stacy Lee Madison in a production of AND THEN I WENT INSIDE in 2009. She encouraged me to expand the play, and so I turned it into the full-length THE STACY PLAY – A LOVE SONG – VOLUME I. It has been read and developed in many venues in New York City and Philadelphia.

In addition, I wrote almost twenty short plays and monologues in the last half of 2010, featuring such characters as a 9-point buck  (HEARTSHOT), an aid worker in Darfur (THE ONE), an animal shelter worker with a very long last name (THE HYPHENATA), and a transgendering youth who insists on creating his own identity (PRONOUNS). I also wrote five plays for clowns, four of them starring females.

I hope that you’ll enjoy these editions. Happy reading!

THE STACY PLAY to Appear in Julia’s Reading Room December 14th

On December 14th, I will direct a reading of my play THE STACY PLAY – A LOVE SONG – VOLUME I at Julia’s Reading Room in NYC. Held at the home of legendary producer Julia Miles, JRR is a program of the League of Professional Theatre Women. As a special treat, I will also direct and present a performance of my clown play BOUDOIR BENCH, which introduces a new archetype: the beautiful female clown. Please email me for more details at hamiltonlit@hotmail.com.

THE STACY PLAY was originally written as a one-act named AND THEN I WENT INSIDE. Kathleen Chalfant premiered the role of Stacy at the LPTW’s New Play Festival last November. THE STACY PLAY appeared last summer in TRANSITIONS, a juried Virtual Exhibition created by Pen and Brush, the legendary New York City women’s art collective. I have read scenes from the play at Pen and Brush and the Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe. It recently placed in the top 100 entries for the Stage Play category of the 79th Writer’s Digest competition.

Anne’s Plays and Poetry Win a Place in TRANSITIONS, Pen and Brush’s Juried Exhibition

Anne Hamilton’s plays and poetry have been selected for the juried exhibition TRANSITIONS at Pen and Brush, Inc. in NYC. ANOTHER WHITE SHIRT (play), THE STACY PLAY – A LOVE SONG – VOLUME I (play) and GONDOLIER (poem) will appear in the Virtual Event at www.penandbrush.org from June 3rd through August 31st.

The exhibition had its real-time opening at the Pen and Brush studios on June 3rd between 6pm and 9pm at 16 East 10th Street near Washington Square Park in New York City. Anne read SHARON’s first monologue from ANOTHER WHITE SHIRT and STACY’s last monologue from THE STACY PLAY. She also read colleague Leah Kornfeld Friedman’s play I STOOD WITH MY SATCHEL. A previous Pen and Brush award-winner, Leah had a prior engagement and could not attend the opening.

AND THEN I WENT INSIDE starred Kathleen Chalfant at the Cherry Lane Theatre (NYC) in November, 2009. With Kathy’s encouragement, and with her voice in mind, Anne expanded the play into THE STACY PLAY – A LOVE SONG. In March, Anne performed AND THEN I WENT INSIDE (PART II of THE STACY PLAY) in Philadelphia at the Green Light Arts debut event, and read YOU ARE HERE – PART I, with Christopher Gliege as Jonathan, at the Hibernating Rattlesnakes event at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.
